Revisiting Friendster

My sister just told me that Friendster has a new interface. Seems like their trying to reinstate that they are part of the competition, haha! Anyway, just found this old game that I played in the old social networking site, haha! Check out the change for yourself!

No Internet For Another Week

This is just so frustrating. Last week, I went home expecting good internet connection for the weekend. In ended up with all the expecting - no internet and no DSL link. There, even the telephone line is cut. We had been paying our bill promptly, and this happens.

Frustration extends this weekend! :'( However, we have our telephone back, just no internet. For the mean time, using my Smart Bro plug n play internet. Its a pretty decent speed (check speed test below) but I get disconnected randomly, but will reconnect after restarting the connection. Just 10 pesos every 30 minute window, so all is good, disconnect-reconnect does not hurt my pocket. Hmmm... just a band aid to my frustration, thought Globe is good with handling customers' concerns. >.<

Opportunity Costs

I first came across this term when I was taking up my BA 101. Let me give you Wikipedia for a definition:

"Opportunity cost is a key concept in economics because it implies the choice between desirable yet mutually exclusive results. It is a calculating factor used in mixed markets which favour social change in favour of purely individualistic economics. It has been described as expressing "the basic relationship between scarcity and choice."[1] The notion of opportunity cost plays a crucial part in ensuring that scarce resources are used efficiently.[2] Thus, opportunity costs are not restricted to monetary or financial costs: the real cost of output forgone, lost time, swag, pleasure or any other benefit that provides utility should also be considered opportunity costs."


But for a person who is not so adept with terminologies, it goes around one basic question - Which is more practical?  This had been my philosophy for quite some time now. I gets me away from should-have-done-this's and should-have-done-that's. What makes a decision 'less practical' for me is when you regard yourself less important than other people or than other things. It might not be the best choice, but I know that it is MY choice and I am totally happy about it.

And why did this bug me today? It took me two hours to decide on attending a seminar a while ago, haha! Its for a career talk from a Japanese company. Working for that company means settling down on another company but for a high-paying job. I told myself that I will work here in the country for a number of reasons but my mom is pushing me to try going out of the country. Well, its just a company talk, but why should I attend that if I know from the very start that I will never go there. I may not qualify or pass their requirements, but going there is opportunity wasted. I might be off to something productive during the time that I'm gonna sit there and listen to whatever they have to say.

It just feels good that now, I am confident with choices I make. I now understand how the value of opportunity costs works out for me. :D

Less Hassle on UP Reg

For the Second Semester 2009-2010 Registration Period, UP Diliman students can

pay at any of the following PAYMENT CENTERS:

* UP Cashier's Office

* UP Office of the University Registrar

* Land Bank of the Philippines (all branches nationwide)

* Development Bank of the Philippines (all branches nationwide)

Note however that:

1. Only the exact, University-assessed tuition fee should be paid at

all payment centers.

2. Payment centers will only accept cash, Cashier's Checks, or

Manager's Checks. Personal checks, company checks, credit cards or

other forms of payment will not be accepted.

3. You should NOT make your payment through the bank if:

-- You're availing of a student loan, scholarship, reduced fees or

other privileges

-- You cannot pay the full amount

-- You are making a late payment for a previous semester

-- You are paying for a Change of Matriculation or other fees

How much self-pity is there in this line? I pulled it up from an unpublished entry in my Multiply Blog, and was planning to keep it unheard of until now. I already came into the realization that I was thinking too much of things. (at last!) Too much, but all for nothing - I guess there was no sense at all the thinking. I get stressed and nothing changes. A lot of energy needs to be rechanneled to something productive. If I want to be alone, well, its just that I wanted to be - no need for other why's. Its a choice or preference, a part of being me.

I made a list of my targets. I came out of this after a long time of not being able to accept my additional one year, in the university - as an undergraduate. Maybe coming across this one is a sign that I should pursue things that are worth the time. Here goes:

1. to draw again

2. to write better

3. to speak better

4. to sing better

5. to touch lives

6. to be a better person

7. magkaluvlife!! Hahaha!

Ooops, seems like something is wrong with this list here, haha! (Cheezy ata? Haha!) But at the end of the day, I know I'm off to something with a new mindset. I'm gonna make this year count. Its not a delay, its just more time to prepare for the real world.

Writer's Block

I believe that I have "Writer's Block" right now, even though I cannot call myself a writer at all. My last post was already a month ago despite having a lot of topics in mind every time. From time to time, I would think of something until I burn hours pondering about it - wanting to write about it; yet, no new entries. Maybe, that is just it - there are too many things to think about right now, that even writing is just an intermission that is not worthwhile to slit in between trains of thought.

Many things happened, but two stood out to be pretty major:

First, I am now officially a product of a broken home. Just found out, I will have another sibling, not from my mom. Hmmm, and by the way things are going forward, it seems like I'm gonna see my mom and dad in court.

Second, my Lola died. Lola, who made the family whole, one last time. All the relatives came at the wake, even Tita Mena from the States went home with the line, "Wala akong pakialam kahit wala akong pera, basta uuwi ako!"

I admit, I think too much, I just can't help it. I waste my time sitting on a corner, or even strolling around the mall alone. Well, a born loner I might be. I opt to have some quiet time than to spend hours with friends. You might see me not speaking at all in a sea of people, but actually, on those times, I ponder a lot on things that I think I should not but still am. I make big deal of small things but I don't let it out, its all in my head, and well, in here. So let me be this loud person online, and somehow, be it an outlet for me being all EMO. I hope writing it down shuts me off thinking too much and so, I will try to write more often. No inhibitions, be it too self-indulgent. In time, I might get back to the happy-go-lucky me... or maybe, I could keep multiple personalities, haha!

I've been listening to Kat Mcphee's "Had It All" for more than a day now. Its just that this is my song right now. I think I'm gonna save everyone the explanation, I've been crying out loud a lot lately. Hahah! The break up was like a million years ago already, but me not being able to talk about it with friends just tell me one thing. Well, add the fact that I was not able to court anybody after her. I was thinking that she raised the bars too high, or is it just that I am not yet over her. Shit! There! I let it out right there again, haha! But dig into the song, Katharine Mcphee owned the song a lot. She really sounds good with ballads that have a bluesy feel. Here is the lyrics too, just so you could sing along. Enjoy!

Shed Some Blood

I donated blood early this month, a second take on a bloodletting drive we have at UP ERG. In cooperation with National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), our organization continues to support this cause. I, myself, found how crucial each pack of blood is. As the VP for Externals last year, I had a number of encounters with members and alumni in need of blood donors, and guess what, we were able to give it through NKTI. Each request was a letter away.

*Doesn't hurt at all, even went straight to my night shift @ call center w/o sleep.*

*Cool freebies I got - a tumbler, a baller and a pillow!*

It was always a drag to convince first time donors. They think a bag is a lot of blood. They think it will handicap them for the rest of their day. They think it hurts a lot. Take it from me, donated twice already, there is nothing to be afraid off. They have a lot of freebies plus, you will feel refreshed after your body regenerated the lost blood. It’s a very cool feeling and at the same time, you are helping somebody needy out there. Go and give your first bag to a bloodletting drive near your place, or drop by a near hospital!

Emo After A Movie

Just finished watching Bride Wars (Anne Hathaway + Kate Hudson - do watch it! Hehe! Feel good movie right there! But I guess, not for me…) and I’m back to one sad truth – I don’t have a clique. This fact was bothering me for two months now, and it just proves how much of a loner I am. I came across the word back in training for my part-time job at Makati last June. We were ask if we have that one person or small group of close friends whom you could tell almost everything about – probably some moments kept a secret between you or some naughty stuff you did. Well, I don’t.


I was always awkward in a sea of people. I hate people who walk slowly, and tend to leave them behind on the move. I eat alone almost every meal of the day. I find my way out of a gimmick if it would bring hassle to me. Maybe I am just selfish, when I am trying to be practical. Then again, at the end of the day, I am alone.

The Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle,
When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,
Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class
And had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
and proceeded to fill it with golf balls..

He then asked the students, if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively
filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed..

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - family,
children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions –
Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else --The small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' He continued,
'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play With your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

'Take care of the golf balls first --
The things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled.
'I'm glad you asked'.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.

My Life Is Broken Into Two

Huhuh! Huhuhuh! I just came back from my weekly dose of badminton, and guess what? I think I overdid it a little... My racket is cut into half!! It was one last smash, then it said its goodbye to me. Huwaaaay?! Huwaaay!?!?!

I was planning to change its string. Good thing, I didn't. It would have been put to waste, because it is useless now. Somebody give me a racket!! Heheheh! Well, it was not because I hit so hard, its just that it is time for my Carlton, haha! That is how Ate Leslie put it, haha! Rest in peace, my racket. But hell, I can't live without badminton, somebody, I beg you whoever you are, give me a new racket! Hahaha! I can't live without badminton!!

Badminton + Chicken Inasal

Checking on my files and here goes another day of badminton and food trip - July 28 '09, Tuesday. Went to Kalayaan Badminton Courts @ 7:00 AM with Mans, Micah and Henry. Yes, freaking 7:00 AM! Hahaha! I got home around 4:00 AM and woke up after three hours to sweat, a lot. We played til around 12:00 noon. Good thing I was able to walk afterwards. We went to Chicken Bacolod Matalino St. for lunch. We all went for the "Pecho" Chicken Inasal. I'm a fan of chicken breasts, so I'm good with it. Just another badminton+food trip day.

A Time Off

Work is stressful. I'm having a hard time using the tools. When I don't know what to do, its either I freeze or I panic. I was put on the real thing for four days already and still, I cannot consider that particular seat as a comfort zone. I even considered not showing up at work. Everything is different now compared to good old training days - days when it felt like I understood everything. Being on the real thing is just another deal and damn is it oh so stressful. I need a break.

Yesterday and today are my days off from work - a perfect escape from all the trauma. And to where is that perfect escape? Of course! AT HOME! Yay!! To Cavite I went - where I could care less about everything.

Everybody was all about Cory Aquino's burial, but all that is on my mind is to go home, my paradise. I arrived at around 1:00 PM and guess what, Cory was still there. My mom was on it the whole day on TV. So there, on it I was too. After a while, I realized I was so apathetic. People couldn't stop crying while telling stories about how Cory was a person that everybody could lean on. And there goes Kris Aquino who really knows her thing. During her speech, as in from the very start til the end, she was in tears - and yet, she delivered one hell out of a speech. I found myself tears too, haha! This mama's boy is a cry baby, hahahah! Cory is just not your typical Filipino politician+mom+friend, and that radiates from all the lives she touched. (By the way, I think Kris would make it good in government, subtract some of her not-so-cool spiels on TV. People even say that she is like the little Ninoy and she was always close with her mom on everything. I think she really has it.) And off the TV I went.

Next stop - my haven. In front of my desktop PC!! Haha! My Windows 7 Beta died on me and now Windows 7 RC is out, like a Beta on its 2nd run. I decided to settle to something that is tried and tested. Away from the cool graphics and effects, I went back to the good old XP. I formatted my HD and installed a fresh copy of XP. After installing everything, surfing I did. My PC is at its full speed, looks like it doesn't like Windows 7 that much as I do after all - or is it about the reformat. Oh well, what matters is that I'm good on the web.

7:00 PM came and it was time to go badminton. Time to sweat out my flabs. Ate Cream-O before playing. My first game was a mixed match with my mom. I forgot if we won or not, but all that matters to me is that I got my swagger in the play. I'm finished with the noob stage. Hahaha! After a while, a long while that is! Haha! Everybody noticed it too, and there goes the comment that maybe its with the red-colored hair, haha! At last, I came over one of my frustrations. Wahahah! And there goes my two games with my mentor, Ate Leslie. Hehe! We won both two sets for both two games, we were never defeated. Wahahah! Her two tips sunk into me. One: Avoid using the backhand, because it has less power. Manouvering the shuttle cock is easier with the forehand plus you could put more power in it. Two: Exercising your risk with something heavy. And that did put the power and speed in my smashes. Yay! Also, we found this butterfly beside the court. Look at the pic above - just an extra, hehe!.

And finally, the day was over, or not? Back in front of the PC I went. Killed hours till 4:00 AM. Finally felt sleepy, and zzz!

Katharine McPhee Is Blonde

It has always been a fact that Katharine McPhee is oh so sexy, be it the looks or the voice, she really has it (well, at least for me, haha). She really deserved to win over Taylor Hicks back in American Idol Season 5. Just a fan right here, crying out loud again. And it seems that producers sees through that too, because she will be releasing a new album on October 6 - that is entitled "Unbroken." And guess what, she's blonde for the album. PEOPLE puts it as "long brown locks" to a "sexy platinum shag." Look at the picture.

The Brat Is Trying To Grow Up

I came home from work yesterday at freakin' 4:00 AM. I did an overtime together with some of my wavemates to take the final assessments. Everybody was tired and all, but it was worth it. We can tell the whole world now that we are officially call center agents - after a number of assessments and all that jazz. We made it.

Now, I am part of the populace who earns money. I'm finished with my fifth year in college (my last year supposedly), on my sixth year right now. If shit didn't happen, I should be making money already out of my should-have-been-finished degree. Not being able to graduate is not an excuse - I felt the need to contribute financially at home. We are not rich and the cost of living is not getting any cheaper. I took the step to apply for a job, a call center stint that is. I went out of my comfort zone, and hell did I whine about everything! Haha! Check out this sampler, found it on my hard drive. Hahaha!

"I am just so pissed off. I was so happy that I passed the final interview in the call agent stint I was eyeing. After the day-long application process, I went through days in queues to process the requirements for employment. Those days weren’t as smooth as I envisioned them to be. I guess being a grown up is not that easy after all.

Then there goes the dreaded medical clearance. It just shakes every little part of me into anger. I’ve been going back and forth to Diliman fixing things for my employment and still, after a month of agony, I am not yet done.

Now Deborah, this was spontaneous blogging. The hate just made me type sentence after sentence. I am here in the convenient store in the building of the company. I am trying to exhaust everything hoping that after this post, my blood pressure would go down. I’m giving it one last shot. Or is my blood pressure shooting up again. I just feel helpless after that doctor told me that cutting off some of my physical activity had nothing to do with my status right now."

After all that - I made it through, because of them, my team. We will hit our second monthsary on the 8th of August, hahah! When things go wrong, we just laugh our way out of it. Everything is fun at work with them. They killed my inhibitions with getting close to people. This team we have here is one that you'll die to be in, take it from this brat who was born to complain about everything. We did it, together! Yay!

Huhuh! I'm forgetting something, I and Marie will be transferred to another team. Damn! But then again, we will still see each other on the floor, hahha! Oh well!
