A Re-Post from Idol Tina Mantaring

Guys, our national elections are coming up soon. Now, you might be thinking, so what? What can my one vote do anyway?

Based on statistics presented by YVote, around 34 million fall within 15 to 34 years old. This data comprises 54% of the voting population in 2010. It shows that theyouthvote, when harnessed well, can swing thevotein 2010. Assuming without conceding that there was no cheating in the 2004 elections, GMA was declared winner by around 1M margin versus FPJ. In the same election, out of the 49.25 million who were expected to participate in the electoral process, only 43.54 million actually voted.

In the 2007 senatorial elections, around 6.4 million potential voters were not registered.

Add to the picture that the ongoing election registration was cut short through COMELEC's directive of moving the deadline of registration from December 15 to October 31, 2009, this poses the possibility of significantly decreasing the number of potential first time voters.

The time to act is now! Let your vote count!
